In the past: Old village of fishermen.

In the past the economy of Gallura was based mainly on farming and agriculture, areas near the sea were sparsely populated and considered of little value. But there was a place that had an exclusive location, within a large natural bay that looked out over the nearby Archipelago of La Maddalena. Inside the creek, was a big mouth that formed a pond full of animal species. It was a very fishy and repaired and convenient to connect the mainland with the nearby islands of the archipelago. So it was that it was built a small harbor, around which arose a fishing village, which developed along the coast. Development of Costa Smeralda changed Cannigione history with an exponential growth. It became a popular tourist destination, full of amenities and attractions for tourists and less demanding than that of Porto Cervo. Its small fishing port was expanded and became a major full-service marina and busy from spring to autumn. It was the ideal place for young people and families who could not afford the luxuries of the Costa Smeralda, but they wanted to enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
